Australia II

I spent my first christmas away from home in the little beach town Robe. There we had lovely seafood and strong winds, as it should be on the coast. We also met this little cute sealion in the harbour who eagerly demonstrated his acrobatic water skills, he was adorable.
Then me, Deni and her lovely parents went to the beach. It was a bit too chilly to swim that day so we just walked around the beach looking for pretty seashells.
And after trying out surfing in the town Victor Harbour, which was surprinsingly enjoyable (I loved it actually), we went to the Zoo Urumbirra. There the kangaroos roamed free throughout the whole zoo and you could pet them and feed them as much as you liked. They were so gentle and adorable.
The koala was scary though and cared more about the eucalyptus than us.
Then we went for a walk on an island where there were supposed to be loads of penguins to be found. We didn't see any.
A couple of days later I went home. It was a long trip, really long (Australia, Malaysia, UK and then finally Sweden) and as soon as I stepped on the plan I knew I was going to miss Australia terribly. And now, two months later I really do. Australia is an amazing country and its people likewise. I hate that it's so far away, otherwise I'd be planning my next trip as soon as I could.

This is Australia I

Australia is a land consisting of neverending roads and the biggest fields I've ever seen. It's frightenly huge and getting lost in the desert here would be a nightmare. Your only company would be scorpions, snakes, spiders and who knows what else? But honestly, I don't mind the long hours in the car, driving through the dry, barren land. It is, very beautiful.
The weather is hot. Crazy hot. And the sun is blistering, almost scorching on your skin. I, who never had to use sunscreen ever got burns after a short hour in the sun. However, I'd rather have the scorching, burning sun than no sun at all, as it was in Sweden before I left.
My first destination was the airport of Adelaide. Adelaide is the capital of South Australia. South Australia is the place where everyone knows everyone. When you meet a complete stranger on the street, you can be sure that he knows somebody you know. This kept surprising me wherever I went. However, the first thing I did was to drive with Deni to Murray Bridge (in the picture above you can see the Murray River, australias longest river)  where we had a typical australian lunch with her lovely family. We had fish'n chips and WHY haven't I eaten this before? It's crazy good.
This is Deni. She was an exchange student in our class in Sweden during 2010 and the biggest reason I went to Australia. She's the best Australian I know and also the best companion one could have when travelling this huge country. We spent a couple of days at her parents farm before leaving for one of Australias nicest cities.
We took the train, which is in fact pretty uncommon in Australia. Australians tend to think that it's exciting, they usually grab the car so taking the train, it's almost a treat. I think Deni was more excited than I was (I take the train at least once a month).
As we travelled through the countryside it slowly got greener and greener. We were passing the border between South Australia and Victoria. Victoria is situated southeast of Australia, the home to its capital Melbourne, our destination.
Our first dinner in Melbourne was at some sort of Italian resturant where we got complementary wine and bread. One can't say no to that? Deni had a risotto and I had this lovely pasta with a creamy sauce filled with mushrooms, avocado and chicken. Might have been the best pasta I'd had during 2011. And believe me, I eat a lot of pasta.
We headed to a place called Softbelly which we named our homebar since it was fairlyclose to our hotel and quite cosy. We only went there once.
The next day was our shopping day. It was a day filled with dresses and shoes. Although I only bought one dress and a lot of lattes. We were at Starbucks, I always go there when I get the chance since we don't have it in Sweden.
The backstreets were filled with graffiti and all sorts of art. This one in particular.
Melbourne has a lot of amazing architecture. Actually, Australia is filled with crazy modern structures, some of them are just incomprehendable. But it's a sight to be seen. Especially Federation Square, I thought it was really, really nice.
If I was to live in Australia. Melbourne would be the place.

Back

I'm back. And I miss Australia already.

London - Kuala Lumpur - Adelaide

So, I was pretty careless and forgot my memory card reader at home. Which means I can't upload any photos until I come home (except for these ones from my iPhone). But I'm writing this post anyway because... I'm in Australia!!!! I got here about a week ago, and it's amazing. It's really hot, but in a nice kind of way because it's pretty breezy and not humid. I was in Melbourne a couple of days and got to Deni's place near Adelaide just this morning.
And also, Australia is pretty amazing.

Australia

One week ago I booked a ticket to the other side of the world - Australia. I'll be going there for one month in December. I'll be going to Adelaide and Melbourne. It's going to be so so amazing. I'm visiting my friend Deni (the crazy cat below), whom I haven't seen since last winter. I promise to take loads and loads of pictures to bring home.

Prague

Forgot to tell you! Last week I was in Prague, along with a couple of friends and had inexplicably much fun. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities I've ever been to and I feel very lucky that I got to spend 4 days there. The food is really really good, the beer is astonishing (and I'm not the biggest fan of beer) and very cheap and well, to be honest, everything was quite cheap, lucky us Swedes. If you ever get the chance, go!

Copenhagen

Back on sunday!!!!

Roots

For those of you who didn't know. I'm half Moroccan. My dad is born there and moved to Sweden some years before I was born. Whenever I visit I feel that I somehow have come back to my roots, and yet it feels very alien and different to me. But I miss it. Very bad. It's an amazing country. Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech are all amazing cities.
I can't help though but to feel a little bit worried when I hear about the happenings in North Africa. So this post is for my family over there. Je vous manque.

Moat

This is Moat. A man we met when we were in Khemisset in Morocco whom I asked to take a picture of. He turned out to be one of my uncles old friend and ah I really like this picture so I've been keeping a hold of it for several months now but ah, things have to be shared.

I don't know what I can save you from

Some photos from Heidelberg, which was super awesome. The week mostly consisted of nutella, sweets, food, crêpes... and well, loads of stuff to eat. And I didn't buy one piece of clothing (do you hear me?! not one piece!) or anything like that. Which feels kinda nice. Anyways, I've had two tests today so all I really wanna do is relax and watch some Glee (it's like a happy pill for me).

And oh, I decided to switch the translations and make english my ummm, priority language since everybody pretty much understand that. But I'll keep a Swedish translation, for now I guess, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding which language. Don't get me wrong, I like writing in Swedish but it feels natural for me to write in English as well, perhaps even more natural since there's like a million terms in photography and fashion that doesn't exist in Swedish and I have to come up with this lame translation. But anyway, we'll see, it's hard writing a post two times if you know what I mean :)

Today Lara is turning seventeen (congrats congrats!!) and today I'm off to Tyskland, or well to more exact, in half an hour. Pretty sweet living 20 minutes from the biggest airport in Sweden. Johanna is on her way here, she's in for a very very tiring week. Me (who is almost like a paparazzi) + Johanna (the world most camera shy person) + Clara (who's not as camera shy) + lots of Nutella (or that's what I heard) = Score. Adios Sweden, I'll be back on Sunday!

Far away
